Founded in 1936 as a private institution of higher education, Huntington Junior College is a comprehensive, open-admission junior college located in an easily accessible urban area serving residents of the Tri-State area of West Virginia, Kentucky, and Ohio. Huntington Junior College is committed to providing an equal opportunity educational experience to ensure student learning, validate student outcomes, and promote academic excellence through a qualified and dedicated faculty, staff, and administration. The College provides quality education in eight two-year associate degree programs and three diploma programs. Huntington Junior College was founded in 1936 by Chester A. Riley, Jr. He served as President of the Corporation for over 60 years. The College is centrally located in downtown Huntington. The current facility, the former Cabell County Public Library, was renovated to accommodate the College’s programs while preserving the historical character of the structure. The facility remains on the National Register of Historic Places. The College’s initial course offerings were shorthand, typing, and bookkeeping. Today, eight associate degree programs and three diploma programs are offered in Accounting, Business Management, Computer Information Systems, Dental Assisting, Medical Assisting, Medical Coding, Professional Office Administration, and Realtime Reporting.
